Jan Locus is a freelance Belgian (Brussels) photographer who works on personal projects and documentary assignments (mainly black and white), favorite formats: medium format and panoramic (Hasselblad Xpan). Personal projects include an ongoing series on Christianity in the world ('Ex-Voto') selected for the 'Noorderlicht international photofestival Groningen 2007: Act of Faith' and a reportage done during several travels to Mongolia which resulted in the book 'Mongolia'(text by Tjalling Halbertsma), published by Cypres and the Antwerp Museum of Photography (FotoMuseum Provincie Antwerpen); this publication received the Plantin-Moretus Award for Best Designed Art Book 2006 (Plantin-Moretusprijs voor best verzorgde boek). Other awards: Kodak European Panorama Award, Laureate International Prize for Young Photojournalism 2003 (Laureaat Internationaler Preis für Jungen Bildjournalismus 2003).
Other projects include 'City Zoo', a photographic impression of zoological gardens worldwide, or a series on various subjects, made with the infamous Diana camera.

Documentary assignments:
'De Bewegende stad' on the continuous changes of the city's functions, its gradual expansion towards the periphery, the urbanization of its outskirts and the degradation of its invaluable neighbourhoods, (Book 'De Bewegende stad' published by VPMA & Pandora Antwerpen).
'Dam' on the last days of the cattle market and abattoir in the old working class neighbourhood 'Dam' (northern Antwerp, Belgium).
